Q. Hello, I'm in beginning calculus and I have no idea how to solve this problem. Could someone please give me an explanation? Point A on a function is at f(4)=25 Its instantaneous derivative is 1.5 Points C and B, which are on the curve, have the x coordinates of 3.9 and 4.2 respectively What are the y coordinates of C and B? A. Hi! They make this problem sound a lot harder than it actually is! :) Given only the slope and a point, the function has to be a line. If it were anything else, you would need more information. Since it's a line, you can use the equation y=mx+b, where m is the slope, and b is the y-intercept, to find the equation of the line, which you can then use to find the y coordinates. y=mx+b y=1.5x+b Plug in (4,25) to find b: 25=1.5(4)+b 25=6+b b=19 Therefore, the equation of the line is: y=1.5x+19 Now plug in 3.9 and 4.2 for x to find the corresponding y-coordinates. y=1.5(3.9)+19 y=5.85+19 y=24.85 y=1.5(4.2)+19 y=6.3+19 y=25.3 Hope that helps!!! :)

What are the values of x and y in the formula that is given?
Q. It required 7.6 mL of a 0.134 M sodium carbonate solution to precipitate all of a metal ion, which we will call Q, from 20.0 mL of a 0.102 M solution of the nitrate of Q. What is the formula of the carbonate of Qx[Qx(CO3)y] that precipitated? That is, what are the values of x and y in the formula that is given? And how did you get to the answer?

A. 7.6mL x .134M = 1.02mmoles carbonate. 20.0mL x 0.102M = 2.04mmoles Q. 2.04 / 1.02 = 2moles Q to 1 mole CO3. x = 2, y = 1 Formula = Q2CO3, Q will have a 1+ charge.
